Skin Testing Policy
At Allure Hair Salon, all colour clients must be skin tested in line with our salon insurance cover.
Clients who need to be skin tested:
Every new client
Every client who has not had a colour in 6 months at Allure
When pregnant and breastfeeding,
Minors
We consider anyone under 16 a minor; we do not allow any colour services on a minor.
Allergy Alert Test
Please visit the salon at least 48 hours before your appointment
We will apply a small amount of colour formula behind your ear
This must be left on for 48 hours. Should you experience any signs of irritation, swelling, reddening, itching or inflammation, please get in touch with us at hello@allurehairsalon.co.uk or by calling 01293 450178
If you develop symptoms that make you feel unwell, please seek a medical professional immediately
All the team at Allure have been trained to test and screen for suitability for colour services
We are very experienced in safe colouring practices
We use the best products and invest in the most up-to-date practices
We take your safety very seriously
It is also possible to suddenly become allergic or sensitive if exposed to triggers such as henna, tattooing and semi-permanent makeup. We need to monitor the skin tests to be up to date with any changes that could occur.
Colour Questions
Questions you will be asked for each visit to the salon when in for a colour appointment. Our duty of care is to determine if you need to be re-tested. You are responsible for informing us if you answer yes to any of the below questions.
Are you under 16?
Are you pregnant, suspect you’re pregnant or breastfeeding?
Have you previously had any reactions to hair colour?
Have you taken tropical steroids or other immunosuppressant medicines since your last colour?
Have you coloured your hair with a home box dye since your last appointment?
Have you ever had an allergic reaction to any of the following in the last five years? Temporary tattoos, skin tattoos, permanent makeup, henna
Is this the first time you have had your hair coloured?
Has it been more than six months since you last had your colour?
Have you had any allergic reactions since your last colour?
Have you had any of the following since your last appointment? If yes, we will need to do a new skin test. Please come to the salon as we won’t be able to colour your hair.

If you have answered yes to any of the questions, please come to the salon to arrange to have a new Allergy Alert Test done. We recommend that the Allergy Alert Test is done at least five days before your appointment (but no less than two days).
Client Records and COVID
Please remember all new and existing clients need an up-to-date Allergy Alert Test every year on record.
If you have had your COVID-19 vaccine or have had COVID-19, we will need to renew your patch test before your next colour appointment. Does this apply to you?
